The Akita Inu is elegant and beautiful, with a calm and quiet nature (seldom barks). All these positive characteristics let you think Akita Inu is an easy dog but this is not the truth. Akita Inu is a dominant dog, with a really complex personality, challenging to raise if you don’t have experience.

Powerful, reserved with strangers, and really protective with its family. Akita Inu has an excellent guarding instinct, that must be controlled, in fact is desirable during the first months of its life that it get used to stranger and people in general, in order to avoid behavior problems in its adulthood.

Akitas can be really aggressive with other dogs, especially of the same sex, two males or two females should never be left alone together. Akita Inu may co-exist peacefully with another dog for years until suddenly, apparently without any reason, a minor disagreement occurs, Akita may attack with unsuspected ferocity. Akitas can be very possessive of their food, spaces and toys.

As you might guess, cats and other small animals are also at risk around an Akita. In general, it is simply safest to keep this breed as an only pet.

Training an Akita is not so simple because they are assertive, strong-willed, and bore easily. They have a extraordinary cleverness that may be used in ways that suit its own purposes.

Is advisable an expert owners and never a first-time owner. In fact, with training experience, educate an Akita will be easier. The key of a good relationship with an Akita is respect, without it, have this kind of dog in your family would be problematic and sometimes ever dangerous.
