Have you ever wondered what your cat gets up to when you’re not around?
As many of us spend our days away from home at work, our furry friends are living out their very own adventures. Our new 2026 data, based on 1700 users, has revealed that Britain’s cats are much more active than we might think.
Findings from our user database in the UK has revealed that the average British outdoor cat travels 1.5km a day.
In total, the UK’s cats* are travelling 1.3million kilometers every single day. That’s almost to the moon and back TWICE.

Interesting British cat statistics
Alongside this astonishing figure, our data has also found that:
- British cats are most energetic in the evening, with average steps peaking at 7pm at approx. 600 steps per hour
- There is a decline in average steps at night at approx. 250 steps per hour
- Rise in steps again at around 4am, peaking at 8am at approx. 550 steps per hour
- The UK’s cats also take a break for lunch, with activity dipping around midday (approx. 400 steps per hour)
Who are Britain’s most travelled cats?
Coming in first as Kippy’s ‘top mover’, is an unnamed British Shorthair that has travelled over 165km in one month alone. Putting us to shame, that is almost four marathons!
Close behind on the leaderboard is Spock, a Savannah, who travels on average 35km every month. In third place is Olaf, a Maine Coone, who travels approximately 33km monthly – just shy of completing a marathon over the course of a month.
We spoke to Olaf’s owner, Alan, who admits this discovery comes as a surprise: “We were very surprised to find out Olaf was one of Britain’s most travelled cats! Although when you look at his daily travels on the Kippy app, he does cover lot of ground.
“Living in a heavily forested area lends itself to Olaf’s travels as he “tends to stay closer to home in the morning, but further afield in the afternoon and evening. He comes home to eat, and have a treat, at least four times a day.
“We know that he spends time with the rabbits and red squirrels that abound here. We call him in at around 7pm, and he always responds to our call.”
